Phones & devices
Use TalkLayr wherever you work.
Your business extension does not have to live on a desk.
Use a softphone on mobile or desktop, add a supported desk phone where it is useful, or combine them around the way each person works.
Start with the devices you already use
For many people, the phone they already carry is all they need.
A business phone system no longer has to mean putting a handset on every desk.
TalkLayr softphones let people make and receive business calls using the devices they already work with, while keeping the business phone system separate from their personal mobile number.
They remain part of the same TalkLayr call handling, Phone Books and wider business communications environment wherever they are working.
One business identity
One extension, the way you work
Your extension should follow you — not the other way round.
A TalkLayr extension belongs to the user, not permanently to one physical telephone.
Someone might use a desktop softphone while working at their computer, a mobile softphone when they move away from the desk and a supported physical phone where a handset is useful.
The device can change without changing who that person is within the phone system.
When a desk phone is the right tool
Some places still deserve a proper phone.
A physical handset still makes perfect sense in plenty of places.
Reception desks, warehouses, counters, meeting rooms and shared work areas can all benefit from a dedicated business phone. And some people simply prefer picking up a handset.
TalkLayr lets you add supported desk phones where they genuinely improve the way people work, rather than making them a requirement for every user.
Hardware can be quoted separately where required.
Centrally provisioned
Supported phones should arrive ready to become part of the system.
Setting up a business phone should not mean handing somebody a sheet of SIP server addresses, usernames and passwords.
TalkLayr can provision and manage supported desk phones centrally, associating the device with the right user, role or location and applying the appropriate configuration.
Where the supported deployment method allows it, very little manual phone configuration should be needed by the user.
Less telephony administration
Users should not need a list of SIP settings to get a phone working.
The technical details still exist, but they belong underneath the service rather than on somebody's desk.
TalkLayr is designed so supported devices can be assigned and configured as part of the platform instead of being treated as isolated little telephone systems.
That makes adding, changing and replacing phones easier to manage — and easier to understand.
Contacts where people need them
Bring useful business contacts to supported phones.
Phone Books should not stop being useful just because somebody chooses a physical handset.
Where the device and integration support it, TalkLayr can make shared business contact information available on supported phones as part of the same Phone Books environment used elsewhere in the platform.
That means the useful contact data stays connected rather than being maintained separately on individual handsets.
Change the device, not the whole system
Replacing a phone should not mean rebuilding an extension.
A physical phone is only one way of accessing the user or role behind it.
If a supported handset is replaced, the new device can be associated with the existing TalkLayr setup rather than treating the person as though they are starting again.
The extension remains part of the system. The device is what changes.
Not every phone belongs to one person
Reception desks, meeting rooms and shared areas can still have the right device.
Some phones belong to a place or a job rather than one named person.
A reception handset, meeting-room phone, front counter or shared duty phone can still be configured as the right kind of device for that location.
TalkLayr can support personal ways of working and shared physical phones within the same overall system.
More than a dialler
On compatible Android business phones, TalkLayr can become part of the screen too.
TalkLayr Connect is designed as a companion to the normal dialler on supported Android business phones.
Instead of trying to replace the phone's native calling experience, it can bring useful TalkLayr features such as Phone Books and Call History onto the same device.
That gives businesses the familiarity of a physical phone with more of the wider TalkLayr platform close at hand.
Managed as part of the platform
The phone is a device in TalkLayr — not a separate little phone system.
Supported phones can be treated as managed parts of the wider TalkLayr service.
That creates a cleaner foundation for assigning devices, applying appropriate configuration, delivering supported directory information and reprovisioning equipment when things change.
The aim is simple: the business manages the phone system, not a collection of unrelated handsets.
The right device for the job
Mobile for one person. A desk phone for another. Both can belong to the same system.
Different roles need different things.
A salesperson may spend most of the day on a mobile softphone. A receptionist may prefer a desk phone and desktop access. A warehouse may need a shared handset. A manager may barely use a physical phone at all.
TalkLayr lets the device choice follow the job without splitting everybody into different phone systems.
Work the way that suits your team
Use the devices you already have. Add the phones you actually need.
TalkLayr gives people a business extension without requiring a desk phone for every user.
Start with softphones where they make sense. Add centrally provisioned supported desk phones where a physical handset improves the job. And use compatible Android business phones with TalkLayr Connect where you want more of the platform on the device itself.
